Feel The Power - Jon Pritikin

Students in grades 4-8 were treated to a special assembly with Jon Pritikin. There were incredible feats of strength and a great testimony on how we need to treat each other in school. The Lord will continue to use Jon tomorrow night at the gym here at the school, 7:00 pm. WE CAN'T ENCOURAGE YOU ENOUGH TO COME AND SEE AND HEAR JON!

Art Contest Winners Here In The County

From Mrs. Sue Sinex, art teacher:

Lauren Hearn (4th grade) and I attended the Wildflower Art Contest Winners’ Ceremony on Saturday. The ladies presenting the awards did a great job encouraging the student artists with their interest and enthusiasm.

Lauren Hearn was the second place winner and Ethan Liebetreu (4th grade) was the third place winner. Both students received cash and prizes and plans are being made to have their work displayed at FGCU for about a month. It was a really nice event!

Special Third Grade Science Unit

Third grade dissected worms as part of their science chapter. Six NJHS members that are in the 7th grade went over and worked with small groups of 3rd grade students. The older students dissected the worms with the 3rd graders. They were the "professionals" as they did this in 6th grade and were very familiar with the process. - Mrs. Leatherman, middle school science

Great Middle School Open House Turnout!

I am VERY pleased with the turnout of current and new families that came to our first middle school Open House! Our staff and faculty did an EXCELLENT JOB with their presentations and classrooms - everything looked great! We were blessed by testimonies from graduates Sharon Taylor and Matt Swearingen, 8th grader Brett Billman and Mrs. Billman (19 tuition-paying years of invested in FMCS!).

If you know anyone that would like more information and/or a tour of our middle school, please have them call the school. Thank you to all of you that were able to join us!

Leadership Academy Hears From 7-11 CEO

A couple of weeks ago, our Wednesday NJHS Leadership Academy class watched the episode of the TV show "Undercover Boss" when Mr. Joe DePinto, CEO of 7-11, went undercover in his own business to learn more about his company. It was a great lesson in leadership. The next week, each NJHS member wrote him a letter and today we heard back from him: (you can click on it to enlarge)

Three cheers for Joe DePinto - especially for all the free Slurpee coupons!

4th & 5th Grade in the Middle School This Week

The 4th and 5th graders had a taste of middle school this week - specifically the opportunity to participate in science labs with Mrs. Leatherman in the middle school science lab.

Here's Mrs. Leatherman's descriptions of what they did:

4th grade- they are studying plants. We did a lab that will show us the affects of garbage and waste on the environment-plants-an animal’s ecosystem. We tied all of this in with their recycling project they do. Each group put beans in 3 different Petri dishes. They then put 3 different liquids in the Petri dishes: Constant was water and the variables were rubbing alcohol and coffee. I prepared a liquid and let the beans soak overnight. They are going to watch the beans over the next week and see what the beans look like. Hopefully, this will help them see the effect we have on the environment when we don’t properly dispose of waste.

5th grade- They are studying ecosystems. We did a lab that showed them how we can use garbage to create energy. The lab was titled Biomass ( the usage of waste to create energy) They created ovens and we burned a peanut, marshmallow and a piece of wood. We checked the temp of the water to see what waste product raised the temp the most. Hopefully, this helped them see that we can create a better ecosystem for animals by utilizing the garbage the we put in a land field, as a form of energy.

Many thanks to Mrs. Leatherman and the teachers for providing this special project.

Learning Disabilities Workshop

FMCS would like to thank Lisa Cronin Miller for the workshop with out 5th-8th grade teachers and students. Students were taken through some great hands-on activities that would help them get some insight on what it meant to have a disability or processing problem. It was a great opportunity and we appreciate the donor that made it possible.

Life Skills in Today's Leadership Academy

FMCS would like to thank Mr. Mark Allen from Performance Auto for coming over and talking with our Leadership Academy class today. Mr. Allen started in the classroom with five things to consider when buying a car, and then they went outside to check out the PT Cruiser Convertible that he brought over. It may be early for our 8th graders now, but it was valuable information to help them prepare for when the day comes.
