National Honor Society History at FMCS!

Tonight, Ft. Myers Christian School celebrated two Honor Society Inductions. The school was issued a charter this year for the first National Elementary Honor Society, an organization that recognizes outstanding students in fourth through sixth grade. This chapter is one of the first to be granted here in Southwest Florida. (We are the first and only Christian school in this area; only eight other schools in the area have an NEHS) Our chapter is the named after Josiah - after the eight year old king who changed his people through his Godly leadership. Our first group of NEHS inductees are: 4th graders: Kelsi Bevington, Brennen Cole, Blair Colbert, Olivia Cook, Tyler Goguen, Jenna Iten, Jennifer Lavorgna, Austin O'Grosky, Sarah Swiersz, Michael Walch, Androse Watson, Parker Wunderlich; 5th graders: Elijah Benzon, Caroline Chester, Joshua Harriott, Joshua Harvey, Victoria Weller, Tyler Williams; 6th graders: Mallory Dillon, Celine Gulbronson, Zachary Liebetreu, Taylor Lowry, Robin Mitchell, Haley Morig and Amy Romstadt. The chapter sponsor is fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Robin Couch.

The school also inducted twelve new members for their spring induction for their National Junior Honor Society: 7th graders: Brett Billman, Holly Branthoover, Taylor Derums, David Faux, Carlye Fulton, Karina Rivera, Megan Morrow, Robert Rose, Brooke Schafe, Julie Wagner and Tucker Zahorian; 8th grader, Wray Burgess. The NJHS sponsor is middle school language arts teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Crouch.

Let's Hear It For The Teachers!

Thank you parents and familes for making Coldstone Family Night a success! Thanks to Coldstone in the Cape and Ft. Myers! THANK YOU to our teachers behind the counter tonight!

Mrs. Rivera Update

Many thanks for all of you that have been praying for Mrs. Rivera. My family had a chance to stop by her house for a visit. She is blessed to have a loving husband and family. She is continuing with her physical and speech therapy. She is walking better but is still having trouble with her right arm. If we were fluent in Spanish, we may have helped her communicate better but we had help from her husband. She does plan to stop by the school for a short visit before school is out. It was great to see the progress she is making.

Thank you to Parent University, once again helping to make FMCS a better school - the coin drive was a great success! Many thanks to our coin counter parents. The school total was $2049.70; the winning elementary class was Mrs. Collin's 2a class with over $300; Mrs. Mitchell's 8a class finished in first after being behind all week. The funds will help us in the area of technology - Mr. Sinex will be helping us equip two classrooms with interactive greaseboard management systems.

Alumnus Wins in District Tennis

Congratulations to class of 2008 graduate, Linda Kornienko, and the Bishop Verot girls tennis team for winning the District 2A-11 tournament. With the teams tied at 16 going into the two doubles finals Friday at Florida Gulf Coast University, Linda Kornienko and her teammate rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lemon Bay at No. 1. “Really just the biggest thing is to be consistent,” Kornienko said of her mindset going into the decisive doubles finals. “Never let anything get to you. Try to block it out, just play,” she said of what was at stake. “I didn’t think about it one time while I was playing.”

Kornienko will also play in No. 1 singles at state, having won the district title by beating Lemon Bay’s Jordan Ittersagen 6-1, 6-3. “I never thought I’d be going to states,” said the 14-year-old Kornienko, who has been playing tennis for six years. “You just take it step by step and keep going.”

Singles
1. Linda Kornienko (BV) d. Jordan Ittersagen (LB) 6-1, 6-

Doubles
1. Kornienko/Rickert (BV) d. Ittersagen/Wilson (LB) 6-0, 6-3
