A Halloween with a Purpose

My family had the opportunity to walk tonight in one of the neighborhoods not far from FMCS. We saw many members of the FMCS family around the neighborhood. My wife and I were very proud and impressed by the display at the home of Amy (our PK3 teacher) and Frank Jean - complete with Knights of Light activities and displays. Where else would you go trick or treating with a chance to leave your prayer requests, or hear about Jesus with the help of another teacher, FMCS parent and an alumnus helping their effort. The bible says to "make the most of opportunity" - thank you Frank and Amy for challenging us to make halloween more than just candy.

Math Pals Program

Another year and another great relationship with math, PK3 and 4th grade - "Math Pals." Fourth grade students get a chance to work on their math and leadership skills as they help the PK3 students with hands-on math projects. Thank you Mrs. jean and Mrs. Sanders! Today it was pumpkin seed counting!

Fun At King Richards!

Today 22 middle school students received their reward for their Entertainment Book sales: a trip to King Richards Fun Park in Naples.

Students Back from Washington D.C.

Three Ft. Myers Christian School students recently returned from a life changing experience in Washington D.C. The Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) offers mature, high-achieving middle school students the opportunity to learn about leadership by studying the leaders of the past and by focusing on social advocacy to make a positive impact in their homes and communities. Through an examination of both different historical time periods and characteristics of leadership, students will gain a better understanding of what it takes to become an effective leader.

Middle schoolers Taylor Lowry, Tyler Williams, and Elijah Benzon joined hundreds of other students for the week. Each student shared their most memorable moments:

Taylor: “The leadership quality that helped me the most was respect because it taught me that I always need to be nice to everyone...My favorite part of the trip was meeting all of my new friends because we became really close."

Tyler: “Harper’s Ferry stood out the most to me because it has so much history behind it...This trip helped me because I learned about so many things it takes to be a leader.”

Elijah: “I was glad to be able to see and learn about famous buildings, monuments and artifacts in the Museum we visited. It is different to see them and know the history behind it...As a Christian, I am glad that my country has given me the chance to freely worship Jesus as my God."

FMCS Missions - Being a Light Outside of FMCS

1) Our FMCS Mission 25:40 Assembly on Monday, November 2 at 9:00 am in the First Assembly Sanctuary. Come and find out what every grade is doing this year and about the kickoff to our school-wide outreach: Operation Christmas Child!



2) November 2-6, shoebox collection week! FMCS families have donated over 1000 shoeboxes over the years!

Reading Takes Off in Elementary

Over the last two days 70 students enjoyed ice cream and all the toppings at the first quarter Accelerated Reader program party. With the encouragement from teachers, parents, family and peers, students read books, took quizzes and accumulated points for the right to go the "the party." Special recognition goes to Miss Blair Colbert (5th grade) who accumulated 128 points during the first quarter! (most students averaged 25 during the first quarter) We also want to thank the great team of AR moms who help make this program a success as well!

Monday evening the winners of the “Keep the Scene Clean” contest, held last spring (in Lee County) were recognized and awarded their prizes in a very nice ceremony at the Broadway Palm Theater. Fifth grader, Megan Derums, received an honorable mention for her entry.

PE TEACHER FOR THE DAY

One of the great prizes from this year's auction was the chance for a student to be PE teacher for a day! This item was purchased by Nick and Lisa Chlumsky for their students, Alexandra and Nicky. Special thanks to our PE teacher, Miss Issenmann, for helping us have this day for us to train up future FMCS teachers!

Today's NewsPress featured two articles on the results of the high school district golf tournaments. Congratulations to:

- Jonathan Lowery, Ft. Myers - almost finished number one overall! Was involved in a four hole playoff.


- Airik Medinis, also a member of Ft. Myers team that will advance to the region tournament next week in Venice.

- Bishop Verot won their district led by Chase Marinell and Austin Lee


- Alex Felice led South Ft. Myers qualified for regionals


- ECS's Jake Sherwin also qualified for regionals
